Is birthday breakfast part of your tradition?
- In our family we always have banana chocolate chip pancakes with bacon and sausage. Started it for my sons second birthday and it just stuck. Think they look forward to each others birthdays for this reason alone.
- Most of the time we do a party with all the friends. The great thing about my kids friends is they all come in pairs. Patrick's friends all have sisters who are Caroline's age. Makes things super easy for planning.
- We let them choose. We either go out as a family or I will cook their favorite at home.
- We have the big party and give one or two small gifts. We do not want them to focus on what they are getting, instead we want them to focus on the time spent with people they love and having fun.

Jamie, sounds like you have some great traditions going on. The pancakes sound yummy! We always have a birthday donut tower and usually have our birthday ice cream torte. As for dinner we don't do so much. Joni
ReplyDeleteOh, fun questions! :-)
ReplyDeleteWe don't do breakfast, never even thought of it until you said it just now. That sounds really fun.
We've only ever done small family parties, sometimes just the four of us, sometimes aunts uncles or grandparents are included--they all have to drive to our town to get in on the party action, so that limits the number usually.
Usually we go bowling, and go out for pizza, or I bake pizza, as my kids think it's a tossup between whether my pizza or the local pizza joint's pizza is better. They get to choose their cake too.
We usually let everyone else in the family get them gifts, which prolongs the birthday--they get to open them as the gifts come in the mail. Then, after the actual day, a few weeks to a month later actually, they get to go on a lunch date and shoppping with dad to pick out their gift from us.
